We are proud to announce that Mode Hotel has just received a prestigious Silver Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme, becoming the first Hotel in Lytham St Anne’s to be recognised at this level.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the national sustainable tourism certification scheme for the UK. Running since 1997 and with over 2000 members in the UK and Ireland, it is the largest and most established scheme of its type in the world.  Mode Hotel was assessed on a wide range of areas such as energy and water efficiency; waste management and recycling.

This is a major achievement for Mode Hotel and we have been extremely committed and well organised and very proactive in our approach to forming a Green Team. We have introduced a number of effective green initiatives including  the use of eco-friendly cleaning materials and energy saving appliances, also  providing  a green area for guests to gain information regarding ‘Green’ activities in Lytham St Anne’s and Lancashire. We are recycling glass, plastic, paper , batteries and ink cartridges. We offer to our guest Fair trade coffee, Ethical tea and Lancashire jams. Hotel bedrooms are decorated using environmentally-friendly water based paints.

The Green team still have many more ideas for effective green initiatives at Mode Hotel and our future commitment is to achieve the highest Award, which is Gold. Well done to all the staff and thanks to our guests who support us in our continued efforts!

RSPB Discovery Centre, an interesting visitor attraction with interactive displays and volunteers who will explain all about the wildlife on the Ribble Estuary, one of the best areas in the world for different species of birds. A popular venue with twitchers. Special walks, talks, displays and activities throughout the season with the resident RSPB warden. An ideal attraction for school parties, families.

The Ribble Estuary is one of the most important places for wildlife in Europe. There are many wildlife habitats, large flocks of birds, wildflowers on the marshes, mud burrowing worms, fish and other sea creatures.  The estuary conjures up different scenes to different people.  Some may think of the vast sun-baked sands, or windswept dunes. Others may picture cattle grazing on the marshes or flocks of wading birds scurrying along the strandline as the waves ebb and flow.

We strive to minimise and detrimental effects as a result of our business.  By working together we can contribute to making a cleaner and safer environment and ensure environmental issues remain a focal point and receive proper attention.

• Make our guests and staff aware of environmental issues and the responsibilities they have for the environment, through regular communication by induction, meets, training and frequent guest information.
• Comply with relevant environmental legislation and take a proactive approach to future requirements and obligations.
